Apprentice Cooper Programme
Start your journey in a time-honoured craft with Oakwood Cooperage’s four-year work-based programme—a unique opportunity to learn one of Scotland’s oldest and most respected trades. As an apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience in the construction, repair, and maintenance of oak casks essential to the Scotch whisky industry. This programme is accredited by the Cooperage Federation and concludes with a final trade test to certify your skills and craftsmanship.
How it works
Years 1–3: Learn traditional hand-tool techniques, cask assembly, repair, and maintenance.
Year 4: Progress into mechanical cooperage, mastering modern processes alongside traditional skills.
On-the-job training: Work alongside experienced coopers in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
